This study examines the effects of retirement on health investment behaviors. We conduct a large-scale international comparison of the change in health investment behaviors after retirement among 13 developed countries, using harmonized datasets. We find that the changes in most of health investment behaviors are heterogenous across countries. JEL Classification Numbers: I00, I100, I120

The Journal of Economic Literature codes classification system (JEL) published by the American Association (AEA) is de facto standard for research literature in economics. JEL used to classify articles, dissertations, books, book reviews, and working papers EconLit, a database maintained AEA. Over time, it has evolved extended with over 850 subclasses. This paper reviews history development sys...

We estimate the speed of income convergence for a sample of 196 European NUTS 2 regions over the period 1985-1999. So far there is no direct estimator available for dynamic panels with strong spatial dependencies. We propose a two-step procedure, which involves first spatial filtering of the variables to remove the spatial correlation, and application of standard GMM estimators for dynamic pane...

Estimation of the dynamic error components model is considered using two alternative linear estimators that are designed to improve the properties of the standard firstdifferenced GMM estimator. Both estimators require restrictions on the initial conditions process. Asymptotic efficiency comparisons and Monte Carlo simulations for the simple AR(1) model demonstrate the dramatic improvement in p...

The paper considers estimation and inference of time series GMM models where a subset of parameters are time varying. The magnitude of the time variation in the unstable parameters is such that efficient tests detect the instability with (possibly high) probability smaller than one, even in the limit. We show that for many forms of parameter instability and for a large class of GMM models, stan...

Innovation plays a crucial role in improving firm's performance. The relationship between innovation and productivity has been widely analysed during this decade across countries industries, generating important new findings. This study aims to provide an overall literature review on the of firms obtain comprehensive overview changing productivity. By reviewing existing empirical evidence, one ...

Missing data is one of the most common challenges facing empirical researchers. This paper presents a general GMM framework for dealing with missing data on explanatory variables or instrumental variables. For a linear-regression model with missing covariate data, an efficient GMM estimator under minimal assumptions on missingness is proposed. The estimator, which also allows for a specificatio...

We modify a previously suggested GMM estimator in a spatial panel regression model by taking into account the difference between disturbances and regression residuals and derive its asymptotic properties. Simulation results and an empirical application to Indonesian rice data illustrate the improvement in finite samples. JEL Classification: C13, C21

Abstract T his paper contributes to the existing literature by examining the determinants of health financing in 177 developed and developing countries. The study introduces the variables of government effectiveness and control of corruption to capture the impact of governance quality on different mechanisms of health financing. Utilisng panel data analysis, namely system...

This chapter gives an account of the recent literature on estimating models for panel count data. Specifically, the treatment of unobserved individual heterogeneity that is correlated with the explanatory variables and the presence of explanatory variables that are not strictly exogenous are central. Moment conditions are discussed for these type of problems that enable estimation of the parame...
